John Michael Balsay, 75, of Palatka, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Hospice Care at Memorial in Ormond Beach following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he resided in Palatka for the past 5 years moving here from Orange Park where he had been a long-time resident. John worked in various positions with BellSouth and later AT&T and retired as a manager following 35 years of service. Following his retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Clay County and also served on their board of directors. In his leisure time, John enjoyed camping, fishing and working in his yard. He was a member of Good Samaritan Anglican Church in Middleburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John G. Balsay and Julia Pohorilak Balsay and a son, John Vincent Balsay.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Icenhour Balsay of Palatka, 2 daughters, Lara LaPorte of Chicago, IL and Cindy Balsay Cannon of Billings, MT, a brother, Joseph Balsay (Carol) of Aurora, OH and a grandson, Edward Crockett.
Services celebrating John’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 2, 2017 a Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Rev. Hall Hunt and Rev. Chris Klukas officiating. Burial will follow at Peniel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 .M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
