Obituary for Warren Edward Mills
Warren Edward “Ed” Mills, 92, of Palatka, passed from this life on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Palatka Health Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Chiefland, he served honorably with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and occupation of Japan during World War II. He resided in Putnam County since 1951 coming from Gainesville. Ed worked as a telephone installer and repairman with Bell South and retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Palatka and was Past Master of Pineland Lodge #86 F&AM. In his leisure time, Ed enjoyed farming, livestock, coon huntin and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington Mills and Martha Jane Corbin Mills, a granddaughter, Ashley Mills, 7 brothers, and a sister.
Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Kummer Mills of Palatka, 3 sons , Danny Mills (Ruby) of Seville, Dave Mills (Susan) of Seville and Dennis Mills (Adele) of Palatka, 2 brothers, Ray Mills (Margaretta) of Gainesville and Rubin Mills of Chiefland, a sister, Ruby Gaskin of Gainesville, 8 grandchildren, W.D. Mills (Stephanie), Ted Mills, Cheyenne Voss (Dustin), Cody Mills, Savannah Mills and Brantley Mills, Karley LaBaw and Abey LaBaw, and 3 great-grandchildren, Logan Mills, Dalton Mills and Josey Mills.
Services celebrating Ed’s life will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Mike Stanley officiating and Pineland Lodge #86F&AM conducting Masonic Rites. Burial with military honors by the U.S. Army will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until the services at 3:00 P.M.
