Ida Hampton Traxler Fisher, 94, a native of Marion County, FL and resident of Palatka, passed from this life peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center surrounded by her loving family. Ida Mae was born in Ocala, Florida to Ralph Roston Hampton and Sallie Meyers Hampton, a pioneer Marion County family. She moved from Ocala to Putnam County in 1948 where she and her husband, the late John Cade Traxler, founded the Traxler Peat Company in Florahome. Ida attended the local college to enhance her bookkeeping skills and was a vital part of the family business. She was a dedicated member of the College Road Church of Christ.
She was devoted to her husband, children, family and service to others. Ida especially enjoyed the family reunions in Ocala each year at Thanksgiving and spring.
She retired in 1969 and then enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, raising children and traveling. For a number of years, she enjoyed spending summers and fall in Franklin, North Carolina. Later, with husband Ernie Fisher, she enjoyed traveling across the United States visiting many western states. Coming from an agricultural background, Ida enjoyed viewing the beef cattle when the new calves were born.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Cade Traxler, her parents, Ralph and Sallie Hampton, 2 brothers, Walter Ray Hampton and Hubert Hampton and 2 sisters, Ruby Mautner and Frances Peebles.
Ida is survived by her husband of 23 years, Ernie Fisher of Palatka, 2 daughters, Rena Dennard of Palatka and Judy Cade Remington (Theron) of Ocala, a son, John Traxler (Jackie) of Palatka, 5 grandchildren, Joshua Remington, John Remington (Eila May), Aaron Remington (Emily), Brandi Nichole Traxler and Kimberly Cade Lopez (Andres) and 5 great-grandchildren.
Services celebrating Ida’s life will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. C.L. Overturf, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
