Harold Douglas Owens, 75, of Palatka, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Putnam Community Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Haysi, Virginia, he resided in Putnam County since 1971 coming from Virginia. Harold had worked 12 years as a truck driver with Sunbelt Transport and 12 years with Florida Furniture Industries. Prior to being in the transportation industry, he worked 25 years as a car preparer in the Kraft shipping division at Georgia Pacific. Harold considered himself a “Florida Hillbilly” and enjoyed collecting firearms, old vehicles and riding his Harley-Davidson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Corbett Owens and Thelma Hill Donweber and 2 brothers, Carl Owens and Garland Owens.
Harold is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary A. Owens of Palatka, 3 sons, Corbett Owens of St. Augustine, Paul Crosby of Okeechobee and David Crosby of Satsuma, a daughter, Marilyn Tibbs of Palatka, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Services celebrating Harold’s life will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Dr. Kirby Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of services at 1:00 P.M.
