Karen Charlene Alexander, 70, of Bostwick, passed from this life on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Putnam Community Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident. Born in Pensacola, Karen resided in Putnam County for 10 years coming from Middleburg. In years past, she worked with Escambia County in the animal control division. She had also worked at Wal-Mart demonstrating various products. Karen was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the women’s auxiliary of VFW Post #1988 in Green Cove Springs and Palatka Moose Lodge #184 in Palatka. In her leisure time, Karen enjoyed crocheting, reading and playing games. She will also be remembered as a “collector” of many things.
She was preceded in death by 2 husbands, Jimmy Felt and Lee Alexander and her parents, James B. Thornton and Elsie Pitts Thornton.
Karen is survived by 2 sons, David Christopher Hansen (Susan) of High Springs and Douglas Scott Hansen (Kristie) of Pensacola, a daughter, Kristi Foster, a brother Mike Mills Thornton (Kathy) of Savannah, GA and 8 grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 A.M at St. Monica Catholic Church in Palatka with Father Ron Camarda as officiant. Interment will follow at Etoniah Cemetery in Bardin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the Gainesville Pet Rescue, 5403 SW Archer Road, Gainesville, FL 32608.
