Obituary for Turner Edward "Buddy" Tillis
Turner Edward “Buddy” Tillis, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. A descendent of a pioneer family of cattleman, he was born in Chiefland, Florida to Chauncey Tillis and Ruth Lee Tillis. He graduated from Chiefland High School in 1953 where he excelled in sports, playing baseball, football and basketball, receiving the athletic medal upon graduation. While in high school, he was active in FFA, attending state and two national conventions in Kansas City, MO as a delegate. He also served as Chapter Treasurer and received the Chapter Star Farmer award. Buddy also judged livestock at the Tampa State Fair for 2 years. While working with his family before the no-fence law in 1946, he helped gather cows and slept in four different cow camps in four different counties. He married Gloria Hardee on January 21, 1960. Buddy was an avid Gator fan. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints, Palatka 2nd Ward, where he held many church offices in the church.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Hardee Tillis, son, Kelly Tillis (Kathy), daughter, Ruth McBay (Shane), 3 grandchildren, Danny Davis, Neven McBay and Justin Tillis and sister, Sarah Tillis Keller.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Palatka. Burial will follow at San Mateo Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services.
