Ralph Leon White, 69, of Palatka, passed from this life on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Palatka Health Care Center following an extended illness. Born in Fort Lauderdale to Ralph Bernard White and Gladys Adler White, Ralph was a 7th generation Floridian. He grew up in Hollywood and graduated from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri with his bachelor’s degree in Physics. Ralph taught and coached football and wrestling at South Broward High School in Hollywood and Boyd Anderson High School in Ft. Lauderdale. Upon moving to Palatka in 1978 from Hollywood, he worked as a steel fabricator at Sheffield Steel. Ralph later taught general science and physics and continued his love of coaching wrestling (44 years total) at Palatka High School. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time as a father with his 2 sons. Ralph was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palatka.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a son, Seth Leon White.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol Zabel White of Palatka, a son, Josh White (Sarah) of Palatka, 2 brothers, Greg White (Teri) of Tallahassee and Charles White (Debbie) of Jacksonville, a granddaughter, Emma White, brother-in-law, Jack Zabel (Sheryl) of Fairport, NY, sister-in-law, Suzanne Markos (Frank) of Newburyport, MA and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Alzheimer’s Treatment and Research Center, Ramsey Foundation, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55101-9021, or Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177 or to a favorite charity.
