Dorothy H. “Dot” Knight, 89, of Palatka, passed from this life on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Heartland Health Care Center in Orange Park following an extended illness. Dot was born in Tampa and graduated from Hillsborough High School where she was Drum Major. She moved to Palatka in 1958 and resided there until 2011 when she moved to Clay County. Dot had worked as a real estate agent, a Mary Kay consultant and as a sales representative for Newton Manufacturing. She had been a member of the Red Hat Society as well as Toastmasters and was very involved in the Grandparenting Reading Program at Moseley Elementary. While residing in Palatka Dot had been involved with several area churches including Christ Independent Methodist Church, Hillcrest Baptist Church, Palatka Baptist Temple and Faith Baptist Church. She was currently a member of Russell Baptist Church in Clay County. Dot was an accomplished soprano singer and pianist and had performed a solo concert in 1974 at St. Johns River Junior College. She was also a strong support of Friends of Israel and her favorite reads were the Bible and Israel My Glory. She considered herself a “Frustrated English Teacher” as she was always correcting improper grammar spoken by her children and others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry John “Jack” Henderson and Bertie Marie Henderson and her husband, Willard Knight.
She is survived by her sons, Roderick Willard Knight (Laurie) and John Schuyler Knight (Debbie) both of Green Cove Springs, daughters, April Knight Tashjian (Jack) of Green Cove Springs, and Mary Lauren Weaver (Troy) of Interlachen, sister, Jackie Leon Serpas of Picayune, MS, 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Services celebrating Dot’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Ed Wilds officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill West Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday.
