Margarita Ariano Seaney, “Margo,” 88, of Palatka, passed from this life on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 7:30 AM at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Martinez , Georgia.
Margo was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, South America to Jose Ariano and Eva Eckardt Ariano, the youngest of 9 children. She moved to Miami in 1950 to get an education. It was there she met her husband, John Kent Seaney. After residing in Plantation, Florida for several years, they moved to Palatka, where she lived almost the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John K. Seaney, brothers Jose Manuel Ariano, Frederico Ariano, Carlos Ariano and Rodolfo Ariano and sisters Beatrice Ariano Maal and Alicia Warnken.
Margo is survived by her children, Laurette “Laurie” S. Booher (Sam) of Augusta, GA, Ava M. Seaney Cannon (Gary) of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Gregory K. Seaney of Philadelphia, PA, and three grand-daughters, Coryn, Mary Grace and Jacqueline (Jackie) Cannon. Her surviving siblings are Cecilia Bancelin & Roberto Ariano, both of Barranquilla, Colombia.
Margo was a homemaker and had also worked as a part-time court interpreter at the Putnam County Courthouse. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Monica Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Woman’s Club of Palatka and its first Latina member. It was there she promoted cultural awareness and diversity, and initiated the club's annual International Day that lasted decades under her leadership. She had a beautiful sense of aesthetic, and the Cherokee Rose flower she drew remains to this day a symbol for the club. A member for years with the Palatka Garden Club, she enjoyed gardening for hours and was known for her award-winning floral arrangements. She was a strong advocate for the Rodeheaver Boy’s Ranch. She loved all living creatures, big and small, and neighbors’ pets could always be found at Margo’s looking for a pat and a treat. Though she could be firm when necessary, she always had a smile to give, infinite patience and remarkable tenacity.
Memorial mass will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Monica Catholic Church in Palatka with Father Ron Camarda as officiant. The burial will immediately follow at St. Monica Cemetery followed by a celebration of life.
