Wesley Armond Staples, 80, of Gainesville and formerly of Palatka, passed from this life on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville following an extended illness. Born in Macon, Georgia, Wesley was a lifelong resident of Putnam County until moving to Gainesville 6 months ago. He graduated from Palatka High School in 1955. Wesley was owner/operator in the family business, Resco Corporation which was involved in environmental remediation in the paper mill industry. He was dedicated to his work and enjoyed spending quality time with his family. Wesley was also an avid Gator fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Staples and Bessie Coker Staples, 2 brothers, Russell Staples and Billy Staples and a grandson, Christopher Reynolds.
Wesley is survived by his wife of 33 years, Glenna Staples of Gainesville, his children, Mark Staples of Jacksonville, Tonya Spears (Robert) of Hartfield, VA, Todd Staples of Delray Beach, Leslie Keene of Gray, GA and Shelley Staples of Hartfield, VA, his step-children, Tammy Reynolds (Kenneth) of Seymour, TN, Mona Taylor (Joe) of Maryville, TN and Paula Cox (Bill) and Sheila Zahler, all of Gainesville, a sister, Carolyn Murray of Ocala, 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services celebrating Wesley’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 12, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Robert Pugh officiating.
