Mary Saunders Johnson, 84, of Palatka, passed from this life on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. Born in Chauncey, Georgia, Mary was raised in East Palatka where she was a part of the family business, Saunders Grocery. She graduated from Mellon High School in 1952 and worked as an operator with Southern Bell Telephone for 9 years. Mary was a very devoted and long-time member of the Ladies of the Putnam County Shrine Club where she had been the official greeter for many years. She was also a founding member of the Patter Chatter Hatters of the Red Hat Society.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Floyd Johnson, a brother, Robert Saunders and her parents, Clinton C. Saunders and Ciddie Pierce Saunders.
She is survived by nieces, Kim Waldron (Britt) of Jacksonville, Dana Saunders (John) of Ormond By The Sea and Linda Kaye Spalding (Marc) of Palatka, nephew, Carl Johnson (Mary Lou) of Nashville,TN, Sister-in-law, Shirley Saunders of Palatka, great -nieces, Brittny Carter (Chris) of Callahan, Whitney Revels (Michael) and Marcy Starling (Austin) all of Palatka, Erica Barnard (Jason) of Jamestown, NC and Alisha Vaughn (Mike) of Davenport, great-nephews, Bradley Waldron (Courtney) of Palatka, Chris Johnson (Cathi) of Canton, GA, Greg Johnson (Jacquie) of San Clement, CA, Neil Johnson (Laura) of Park City, UT and 13 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating Mary’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Charles Litzell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palatka. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 A. M. until the time of services at 11:00.
