Eva Jean (Dougherty) Jones passed away May 3, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Fl. She was 93 years old and active up until a recent illness. She was being followed at home by Haven Hospice.
Eva Jean was born March 13, 1925, to Clarice and Herbert Taylor Dougherty in Graysville, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harold S. Jones; an infant son, William Taylor; Son-in-law, Frank C. McColm; 4 Brothers: Herbert Taylor, Jr., Heber, Bernard, and Victor Dougherty; 3 Sisters: Eileen Pope, Dot Hamilton, and Delores Moore.
She is survived by a son, Brent Jones of Emporia, KS; 2 daughters: Susan Winding (John) of CA and Virginia McColm of FL.; 2 grandsons: Frank McColm (Hope) of GA and Stuart McColm of FL; 5 granddaughters: Victoria and Christine McColm of FL and Misty Jones Crim (Stephen), Carri Jones and fiancé Mark Elfstrom, and Robin Jones Griese (Ben) of AK; 4 great grandchildren: Cooper and Charlie McColm of GA and Brittany Nicole and Brian Crim of AK; 1 great- great grandson, Gavin Armstrong of AK and former daughter-in-law Janet Jones of AK, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Eva Jean attended Graysville High School and graduated Valedictorian in 1943. In 1946, she completed her training as a registered nurse at Ohio Valley General Hospital in Wheeling, WV. She worked at Glen Dale Hospital (Reynolds Memorial Hospital) until her retirement in 1976.
She spent her adult life as a resident of Marshall Co. until moving to Florida to be with her daughter. She was active in the Marshall Co. 4-H program for many years and was a life time member of the Miracle Valley Homemaker’s Club. She and Harold were faithful members of the Hillview Terrace Church of Christ since its beginning in 1964.
She had a passion for needlework and many of her creations won local and national awards. She also loved fishing, traveling, reading, and maintaining her rose garden. She was family oriented and lived a long and productive life, for which we will be eternally grateful.
Eva Jean will be missed by many who will cherish her memory and carry on her legacy.
Family will receive friends Monday, May 7, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. with services beginning at 1:00P.M. at Grisell Funeral Home, 400 Jefferson Ave, Moundsville, WV. Interment will follow at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, Sherrard, WV.
