Rosemary Buck Brunner, 97, of East Palatka, passed from this life on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, Rosemary was a 1939 graduate of Palatka High School where she was a member of an All-State Basketball team. Following high school, she started in the School of Music in Jacksonville and then transferred to Stetson University. She later also took classes at Florida State University and at the University of Florida. Rosemary began taking piano lessons at age 4 and at age 13 was playing the piano at the night services of the First Baptist Church of Palatka. She served as the organist for First Baptist Church for 45 years and then 17 years as the organist for All Saints Anglican Church in Palatka. Rosemary also served as the Choral Director at St. Johns River Junior College for 5 years and over the years, taught organ and piano lessons to hundreds of area youth. In addition to her membership at the First Baptist Church, Rosemary was also involved in the community having been a member and Past President of the Pilot Club and the Palatka Woman’s Club of which she served as Vice President, Treasurer and music chairperson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Frederick Stanton Brunner, a daughter, Lucille Brunner Hamlet, her parents, Lyle Haywood Buck and Annie Keller Buck as well as her siblings, Shaw Buck, Lyle H. Buck, Jr., Warren Buck, Margaret Buck Jeter and Bernice Beatrice Buck Bogue-Touchton.
Rosemary is survived by a son, Lee Brunner (Renee) of Hastings, a daughter, Anne B. Dowdy of Satsuma, 9 grandchildren, Justin Brunner, Lee Carson (Audrey), Beverly Bohannon (John), Chad Brunner, Jessica Pereira and Samantha Jones (Miles), Joseph Hamlett, Mary Lynn Olsen (Erick), Laura Moon (J.D.), 6 Great-Grandchildren, Christopher Jackson, Tiffany Baxter (Charlie), Andrew Jackson (Meghan), R.J. Boykin, Sammy Jones and Molly Jones and 10 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Services celebrating Rosemary’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Brad Hall and Dr. Robert J. Mills officiating. No prior visitation is scheduled. In keeping with Rosemary’s wishes, a private burial with family will take place later at Oak Hill Cemetery.
