Hazel M. Dukes, 85, of Palatka, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Consulate Health Care of Orange Park following an extended illness. A native of Lake Butler, she resided in Palatka since 1954 coming from Lake Butler. Hazel had worked 14 years at Central States Diversified and then in retail sales at several area department stores including Carps, Neisner’s, Belks and at Goody’s. She was a member of College Road Church of Christ. In her leisure time, Hazel enjoyed cooking, sewing and puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dukes, a daughter, Joan Columbia and 3 sisters, Bobbie Woodard, Glenda Mullis and Alma Mann.
Hazel is survived by 2 sons, Harry Dukes (Doris) of Palatka and David Dukes (Lisa) of Spring Hill, TN, 2 nieces whom she raised as daughters, Gail McKee (Sam) of Hollister and Claudia Staton (Rick) of Keystone Heights, a brother, Danny Green (Kathy) of Palm Coast, a sister, Eunice Saucerman (L.M.) of Worthington Springs, 4 grandchildren, Mandy Nash (Chris) of Ft. Worth, TX, Ashley Goode (Tina) of Spring Hill, TN, Tori Rowe (Adam) of St. Augustine and Wesley Walker (Susan) of St. Augustine, 13 great-grandchildren and her care-taker for 10 years, Annette Woods of Palm Coast.
Services celebrating Hazel’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. C.L. Overturf, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
