Louis Edward Jones, 84, of Palm Coast and formerly of Palatka, passed from this life on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center. He was born in Cocoa and was a 1952 graduate from Cocoa High School where he played football. Along with his brother Bobby, Louis co-owned and managed Jones Island Pharmacy in Merritt Island before moving to Palatka in 1971 where he became manager of Eckerd Drugs in the old Azalea Shopping Center. He worked over 15 years with Eckerd’s, managing stores in Palatka, St. Augustine and Gainesville. Following his years with Eckerd’s, Louis owned and operated King’s Coffee Shop in downtown Palatka for several years. While in Merritt Island, Louis was a member of the Kiwanis Club and while in Palatka he served on the board of directors with the Palatka Housing Authority. Louis was a member of the Palm Coast First Baptist Church. In his leisure time, he enjoyed camping, playing the piano and working with the youth at church. Louis was also very talented at working with Stained Glass.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Joann L. Jones, his father, Charles A. Jones, Jr. and mother Hugh D Jones and 2 brothers, Bruce A. Jones and Robert “Bobby” Jones.
Louis is survived by 3 daughters, Barbara Hall (Melvin), Mary Carlson (John) and Bonnie Jones, all of Palatka, 3 sons, Chan Jones of Palatka, Charles Jones (Sherri) of Interlachen and David Jones (Dee) of Bardin, a step-son, Nolan Richard (Brenda) of Palatka, step-daughters, Marilyn Block (Rick) of KY and Shelly Long (Joe) of NC, 2 brothers, Danny Jones (Catherine) of Dowling Park and Andy Jones (Judy) of PA, 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren as well as his special friends, Bill and Val Shirling of St. Augustine and his wonderful canine companion Layla.
Memorial services celebrating Louis’ life will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Jim Stanton and Pastor Melvin Hall officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M.
