Nola Fortner Motes, 95, of Palatka, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following a brief illness. Born in Marianna, Florida, Nola moved to Putnam County (San Mateo) in 1942 from Panama City. She had been a hairdresser for over 40 years and was the long-time owner/operator of Woman’s World Beauty Salon. Nola was an avid fisherman and member of the BASS-N-BABES Fishing Club. She was also involved with the Women of the Moose and the Women’s Auxiliary of VFW Post #3349 where she enjoyed playing BINGO. Nola was a member of Francis Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, B.C. and Ruby Ray, 2 daughters, Judy Mullis Revels and Connie Sue Fortner, a brother, Thomas Ray, a sister, Anne Thibodaux and the father of her children, Tillman Fortner.
Nola is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Fortner Mercer of Palatka and Pat Fortner Rogero (Jim) of San Mateo, a son, Bud Fortner (Sandy) of Palatka, a brother, Clifford Ray (Bobbie) of Palm Coast, 8 grandchildren, Jodi Stovall (Greg), Wende Ann Saucier (Ralph), Ramey Raczkowski (Debi), Randy Raczkowski (Heidi), Dean Mullis (Leah), David Mullis (Susan), Joshua Fortner (Samantha) and Kaleigh Hart (Jonathan) and many great-grandchildren.
Memorial services celebrating Nola’s life will be at 6:00 P.M. Friday, AUGUST 3, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Terry Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until the time of services at 6:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177.
