Obituary for Vivian "Peggy" Bechtel

Vivian "Peggy" Bechtel
Mrs. Vivian Frances Bechtel (known to her friends as Peggy) (maiden name Brown) died peacefully in her sleep at Haven Hospice on the morning of September 4th in Orange Park, Florida at the age of 84.
Peggy is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Wayne E. Bechtel, her parents, John Thomas and Florence Moore Brown, and all ten of her siblings as well as her son-in-law Richard Ladd.
Survivors include her son and his wife - Dave Bechtel (Kathy) of Sterrett, AL; her daughter - Lynn Ladd of Orange Park, FL; granddaughters Jennifer (Dwayne) Shrader and Melissa Bechtel, grandson JB Ladd and granddaughter Kelsey Ladd, 2 great grandchildren Amanda Grace Shrader and Dane Edward Shrader; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Peggy was born on 11 February 1934 in Newnan, Georgia. She graduated from Newnan High School in 1951. She married Wayne after meeting him at a boarding house in Atlanta, Georgia, where it was almost love at first sight. They then moved to multiple locations throughout the United States before finally retiring to East Palatka, FL in 1995. Her children remember her as a loving, kind and wonderful mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Their home was always filled with friends and family, and a never ending supply of Kool-Aid for Dave, Lynn and their friends who gathered around their home at all times.
Peggy was a member of Westside Church of Christ in Palatka, FL and was accomplished at sewing and cooking. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother, and loved playing cards with her family and friends. Peggy and Wayne managed to enjoy several cruises and a couple of trips to Europe after their retirement in 1995.
A celebration of life is being planned for October 6th in Palatka, Florida, with time and details to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Peggy’s life with her family on this date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Haven Hospice or Wounded Warriors. The family would like to thank the staffs at Seagrass Village, Baptist South and Haven Hospice of Orange Park for their care and love for Peggy.
Memories and condolences may be expressed to the family at Peggy’s Book of Memories page at www.johnsonoverturffunerals.com.
Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
