Miriam Joan Brown, 78, of Palatka, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family who loved her so much. She was born in Longacre, WV and had lived in Putnam County since 1981 coming from Macomb, IL. She was a graduate of Cedar Grove High School in Cedar Grove, WV and later earned a degree in nursing from Spoon River College in Malcomb, IL. Miriam was dedicated to her studies and was on the Dean’s List all while raising 7 children. During her 38-year nursing career she had worked at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL, Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka and was the first nurse hired at Palatka Healthcare Center when it first opened. Miriam was a member of First Baptist of Satsuma and was very dedicated to her faith. Miriam’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to those whom she nurtured and loved. Her family will always cherish memories of playing games, making crafts and all of her fun, quirky ideas.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life of 60 years, Glenn E. Brown, Jr., parents, Lewis Montgomery and Harriett Maloney Montgomery, sons, Tracy and Tim Brown, sister, Elizabeth Menke and great-granddaughter, Shelby Cribbs.
She is survived by her children, Troy Brown (Kelly) of Avon, OH, Teresa Humes (Randy) of Pinellas Park, FL, Tania Coker (Syd) of Macomb, IL, Twila Parker (Dennis) of Satsuma and Tami Crews (Billy) of Palatka, brothers, Jimmy Montgomery of Miami, Johnny Montgomery (Sue) of St. Petersburg, sister, Molly Slack of Monticello, special cousin who was more like a sister, Nancy Pat Maloney of Cedar Grove, WV, grandchildren, Kara McKinley (Josh), Christina Forsythe (Brad), Rebecca Markel (Robby), Hannah Wofford (Justin), Greg Griffis (Kaala), Tatum Crews, T.J. Brown (April), Holden Crews (Erin), Jessa Coker, Alexander Brown, McKay Brown, Matt Brown and Dallas Brown, 14 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Cribbs, Ava McKinley, Emma Cribbs, A.J. Cribbs, Noah McKinley, Jackson Forsythe, Easton Forsythe, Tyson Forsythe, Brantley Griffis, Jacen Griffis, Keaton Griffis, Nova Whisman, Brantley Brown and Devin Pritts.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with her grandson, Greg Griffis officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
