Obituary for George W Nettles Jr.

George W  Nettles Jr.
George Washington Nettles, Jr., 89, of Palatka, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Olustee, Florida, George was a veteran of the Korean War and retired as a staff sergeant from the U.S. Army following 20 years of honorable service. Following his discharge in 1967 from the army at Fort Rucker, Alabama, he moved to Putnam County and began working at Central States Diversified. George retired from Central States after 22 years as receiving clerk. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. George was also a member of Pineland Lodge #86 F&AM. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, traveling and going to the dog tracks. George was also an avid Florida Gator Fan.
He is survived by a sister, Leola Fox of Jacksonville and several nieces and nephews including, Judy Wells (Donald) of Palatka, Nancy McClellan (Jeff) of Palatka, Randy Rosier (Sally) of Palatka, Kenny Fox (Linda) of Middleburg and Ricky Fox (Kyra) and Joan Hackney, both of Jacksonville, 11 great-nieces and nephews and 17 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday November 25, 2017 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bishop Johnny Counts conducting. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Pineland Lodge #86 F&AM conducting Masonic Rites and the U.S. Army providing full military honors.
