Jerome F. Teschendorf, 91, of Melrose, passed from this life on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following an extended illness. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he resided in Melrose for 21 years moving there from Middleburg. Jerome was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam and retired from the U.S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer following 21 years of service. Following his time in the Navy, Jerome worked for 21 years as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. During this time he also was taking night classes and obtained his AS Degree from Jones College in Jacksonville. After retiring from the Postal Service, he worked at the Pine Factory Furniture Store in the Orange Park Mall. Jerome was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Interlachen as well as American Legion Post #293. In his leisure time, Jerome loved swimming, deep sea fishing, gardening, horse-back riding and playing horse shoes, croquet and badminton.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Cornelia E. “Carol” Teschendorf and 6 siblings.
Jerome is survived, 5 sons, Jerome Teschendorf of Oklahoma City, Bruce Teschendorf and Steve Teschendorf, both of Keystone Heights, David Teschendorf (Tina) of Wellborn and Doug Teschendorf (Tina) of Middleburg, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Interlachen with Father Pablo Fuentes and Father Ron Camarda as officiants. Burial with full military honors by the U.S. Navy will follow at PineView Cemetery in Interlachen. No visitation is scheduled.
