Jody Ann Wells Rakes, 62, of San Mateo, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home from natural causes. Born in Great Falls, Montana to Burton Wells and Jeanne Knox, she moved to San Mateo in 1960. Jody attended and graduated from the Putnam County school System. She worked for the State of Florida at the Farmer’s Market in East Palatka. Jody was also an ordained Elder at the San Mateo Presbyterian Church where she was very involved with Children’s activities, missions, taught Sunday School, served as past clerk and session member and volunteered at the Bread of Life. The beach was her favorite place. She stayed there almost every summer. Jody also loved going to the mountains.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Louis Rakes, her father, Burton Wells, her mother and step-father, Jeanne Knox and Robert Knox.
Jody is survived by a son, C.R. Wells (Andrea), step-daughters, Lindsay Purcell and Beckie Ashby, grandchildren, Caelyn, Anslee, Skylar, Hank, Ava, Elyssea, Nadia, Josh, Katie, Maddy, great-grandchildren, Drake, Kenlee, Emberlee, her siblings, Barry Wells (Helen), Donny Wells (Meghan), John Knox (Sandra), Peggy Jeanne Counts and Roberta Wiesner, nieces and nephews, Brandy Wells, Neva Wells, Donielle Wells, Baker Knox ( Katelyn), Cole Wiesner (Megan), Ava Counts, Kylar, Madyline, Paizlee, Braxton and Braylon and her best friend, Ana Turner.
A celebration of life service will be at 5:30 P.M. on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the San Mateo Presbyterian Church with Rev. Noel White and Dr. Robert J. Mills officiating. A dinner will follow immediately afterwards in the Potter’s House.

Jody always said, “Make up your mind to be happy”.
Jody loved God, her church, her family and her friends. She was fun to be around and everyone loved her. She had a contagious laugh that everyone enjoyed hearing.
