Henry Wallace Mullis, 64, was born on November 20, 1954 and passed peacefully on May 6, 2019, while surrounded by family. Henry was born and raised in Palatka, FL where he graduated from Palatka South High in 1973. He went on to pursue emergency fire and rescue training, serving as a Putnam County Firefighter and fulfilling his love for helping those in need. Next, he spent time building ships for Hunter Marine. Following this, he began a career at Georgia Pacific. On March 1, 1980, he married the love of his life, Tina.

He was an avid music lover of all genres and enjoyed the outdoors, including both the beach and the mountains. His early years were spent enjoying open-air Jeep rides, cookouts and pool volleyball. He adored his family and miniature Chihuahua side-kick, Mya, who acted as his protector and body guard.
Fishing, surfing, boating, painting, drawing, creating and building were some of his favorite activities. Henry held a natural talent for art and design and was a true craftsman of many rights. He was a self-taught artist using various mediums to express his creativity, including pencil, charcoal, acrylics, wood, leather and more.
In his younger days, he built boats and hand manufactured leather into shoes, belts and bags. Similarly, building quality solid wood furniture was another self-learned skill he fostered. Many of his furniture designs still adorn the family’s home. The hobbies that fueled Henry’s creativity soon morphed into a small “business”, as many requests were made for custom decorative shelves, tables, armoires, headboards and more.
He loved giving unsolicited dating, beauty and fashion advice to his daughters, but most importantly, he never missed an opportunity to express his love or pride of their accomplishments.
He is survived by wife of 39 years, Tina Mullis, daughters, Misty Manwaring and Lynsey Cox, and granddaughter, Clara Moon Cox, nephew “son”, Kyle Coleman (Jamie); sisters, Frances Keeton (Paul), Ginger Manning (Larry), Jo Mullis, Joan Wilson (Dwight - more like a brother to Henry), brother, Joel Mullis, brother-in-law, Greg Jungenberg (Jean) and sister-in-law, Kristi Willoughby (Chad).
Henry has been welcomed with loving arms by those preceding in death: parents, Henry “Happy” and Jean Folsom Mullis, mother and father- in-law, Lyle and Lois Jungenberg, brother, Richard Mullis, sister, Gay Wales (Robert), son-in-law, Eason Manwaring and grandson, Gray Manwaring.
The memory of Henry’s wit and humor will keep his family laughing for many years. He was a natural jokester. Therefore, it seems fitting to leave you with a good laugh, as he most certainly would do. If Henry were to write his own obituary, it might go something like this:
Henry Wallace Mullis, age 64, of Palatka, FL, escaped his “Bird Cage” on Monday, May 6, 2019, leaving behind 17 bottles of Tabasco sauce, 45 rolls of fishing line, 21 flashlights, 32 pocket knives, 746 CDs, a unique combination of scanners and Walkie Talkies and a multitude of other random collectibles all marked permanently with his initials “HM”. As Lynyrd Skynyrd proclaims in Free Bird, “please don’t take it so badly” because Henry’s “free as a bird now”. Fly high, free bird.
