Rodney Carl Sheffield suddenly passed away in a fishing accident on May 21, 2019 at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Madge Sheffield. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Sheffield of 47 years of marriage, two sons, Casey (Katie) and Jason (Trevlyn) Sheffield, and five grandchildren, Luke, Lane, Ivey, Addysen, and Lincoln Sheffield. He is also survived by a younger brother, Kirk (Christina) from Brunswick, Georgia, and numerous nephews, nieces, and other family members.

Rodney was born on January 18, 1952 in Palatka, where he spent most of his life. He had several life-long friends that he remained close to throughout his life. He was a man of God’s will and would deliver “Our Daily Bread,” a daily devotional pamphlet, to many locations throughout the community on a quarterly basis. He enjoyed serving people throughout his life in many different ways.
He retired as a SGT 1st Class from the Florida National Guard after 24 years of service. He worked for Clay Electric Co-op for 20 years and in 2001, Rodney and Cathy acquired Hills Hardware in Pomona Park and have owned and operated the hardware store ever since. He enjoyed serving his customers and developed countless friendships and relationships throughout the community.
He loved to hunt, fish, work in the yard, and spend time with family and friends. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and taught them many great life lessons. He was an active member of Cabbage Creek Hunt Club, Trinity United Methodist Church and was active in the community delivering God’s message.
Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Ernie Cremer officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
