Obituary

Mary A. Black, 91, of Indian Lake Estates and formerly of Palatka, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. Born in Baraboo, Wisconsin to Charles Hinze and Lottie St. Clair Hinze, she resided in Indian Lake Estates for 25 years coming from Palatka. Mary had worked 22 years with Miller Enterprises (Handy Way Convenience Stores). Mary was especially proud that she became the first female supervisor (traditionally, a man’s position) and was placed in charge of 13 stores. Following her time in Palatka, Mary moved to Indian Lake Estates where she was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Wales and was active in the “Mud Dobbers”, a ceramic group that she thoroughly enjoyed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Black.
Mary is survived by a son, James Black (Jane) of Satsuma, a daughter, Sandra Price of Indian Lake Estates, 3 grandchildren, Jason Black (Amy), Tamara Prichett (Jack) and Michael Qualls (Virginia), 10 great-grandchildren, Cody Qualls, Makinsey Black, Corey Black, Trace Black, Emory Black, Jack Aaron Prichett, Katie Prichett, Ben Prichett, Brittney York and Kristin Muse (Brad) and 5 great-great-grandchildren, Chloe Qualls, Trenton Qualls, Aubrie, Emery and Blake Muse.
Services celebrating Mary’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Michael Blare officiating. Interment will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services at 2:00 P.M.
