Obituary

Margaret (Enzor) Hodge, 70, a lifelong resident of Palatka, lost her fight with cancer on Wednesday, July 3, 2019. She leaves behind a devoted husband of 31 years, Richard, her beloved pets, and the home she helped build with her own two hands, surrounded by the yard she cultivated with trees, flowers and vegetables. Margaret loved the simple things in life: the beauty of flowers, the peacefulness of a spring evening on the porch, walks in the woods and the gentle rain. She thought little of herself, saw the best in others and loved her family unconditionally.
Margaret worked for many years as a caseworker with the Florida Department of Family and Children Services, then for several years as a social worker at Palatka Healthcare Center. She earned a degree in Medical Billing and Coding much later in life. She had a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mildred (Merchant) Enzor.
In addition to her husband, Margaret is survived by a large family including three brothers, Samuel “Sammy” Enzor and Stephen “Steve” Enzor both of Palatka and David Enzor (Candy) of Crescent City, three sisters, MaryAnn Counts of Hawthorne, Susan Miller (Sidney) of McLean, VA, and Dorothy “Dottie” Enzor of Palatka, nephews, Johnny Coe Counts of East Palatka, Patrick Enzor of South Carolina, and Sidney Miller, Jr. of California, niece, Evelyn Miller of Virginia and numerous grandnephews, grandnieces and other extended family members. She also leaves behind devoted friends, shocked that such a force of life is gone.
As per her and her husband’s wishes, there will be no services. Memorial donations to honor Margaret’s memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1430 Prudential Dr., Jacksonville, FL 32207.
Memories and condolences may be expressed to the family at Margaret’s Book of Memories page at www.johnsonoverturffunerals.com .
Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.

We had the pleasure of knowing Margaret only briefly and peripherally. We met her and Richard from time to time while walking our respective dogs. It was always a pleasant encounter; and we will always remember her serene and accepting demeanor. She was a lovely person, and many will miss her.

To all of Margaret's family, I send my condolences. I'm as shocked as you are, I'm sure, at how quickly we lost her. I had hoped to see all of you again at a service, but I'm not surprised that she didn't want that. Her quick passing does remind us that we should hold close those who are dear to us. Life is unpredictable. Margaret was one of those unpredicted and very welcome surprises in my life at the tender age of 12. She was 13. We spent most of a summer on her parents front porch discussing things important to young women of our age--boys, makeup, cars. We shared our concerns about our future and who we'd date. The pool wasn't that large then! And it doesn't seem that long ago. I moved away and we lost touch for years. But, we reconnected in the 90s, and it was as though no time had passed. I enjoyed her company as much as an adult as when we were teenagers. We spent time with our friend Carolyn taking day trips to historic sights and places we loved like the beach. Our friendship spanned so many years and important experiences together. I'm grateful for those times and her presence in my life. Margaret was witty and bright with a unique perspective on life. She lived the healthiest lifestyle of anyone I know exercising and eating well--primarily food that she grew. She was a "character", unique and beautiful that will be missed by all of us who loved her. Thank you, Richard Hodge, for caring for her so well. Love to you and all of her family.
