Obituary for James Earl "Jimmy" Vaughn

James Earl “Jimmy” Vaughn, 78, of Palatka, passed from this life on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Community Hospice Bailey Center in St. Augustine. Born in Walnut Hill, Florida to Edward E. Vaughn and Juanita Solomon Vaughn, he moved to Palatka in 1951 coming from Walnut Hill. Jimmy worked at Hudson Pulp and Paper and then in sales at a variety of businesses including American Finance, Flowers Bakery, Sears & Roebuck, Woodmen of the World, Lance Snacks and with Bass Flowers. Jimmy was the founder and sang in the Scriptures Quartet for many years as well as in the choir at Christ Independent Methodist Church where he was a member. He was also involved with the Community Band and enjoyed playing the trumpet. Jimmy was an avid Florida Gators Fan and enjoyed camping and time spent with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Vaughn.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat Vaughn of Palatka, 2 daughters, Gina Porter (Randy) and Renee Vaughn, all of Palatka, 2 grandchildren, Staci Reid (Chris) and Dedra Updegraff (Matt) and a great-granddaughter, Kelsi Updegraff.
Services celebrating Jimmy’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Michael Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill West Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
