Teresa Watts Bechanan, 70, of Pomona Park, passed from this life to her eternal home on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, her family moved to Palatka when she was 2 years old. She was a 1968 graduate of Palatka South High School. Teresa worked for over 20 years with the Putnam County School District as a substitute teacher and instructional assistant at several schools including Moseley Elementary, Price Middle and E.H. Miller Schools. Teresa specialized in working with the visually impaired and was instrumental in helping develop the BEX program which was used throughout the state. The BEX program converted textbooks into Braille. In 1990, she was awarded the Putnam County Support Associate of the Year. For 7 years, Teresa had also co-owned and operated TP Catering along with Patsy Glisson. In 2003, Teresa and Marlin moved to Pomona Park where she enjoyed the serene setting of their home and working with her plants. A very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Palatka, she and Marlin were the youth leaders for many years leading many young hearts to Christ. Most special to Teresa though, was time spent cooking and enjoying life with her family, especially her grandchildren, and her church family.
