Georgie Hall Terwillegar passed away quietly at home after a brief illness. She was born Christmas Day 1922 to George W. and Eva G. Hall in Grandin, FL. She attended elementary school in Palatka at Campbell School downtown. She attended Melrose High School where she graduated Valedictorian. She entered Florida State University in 1940 and graduated with honors earning a degree in business administration in 1944 and was a lifelong member of Sigma Kappa sorority and was recently recognized as one of the longest living continuous members for over 75 years.
She married Capt. Rupert M. Tumlin USAF in 1946 and had two sons, Ronald and Reginald Tumlin. After the death of her father in 1968 she took over ownership of WWPF radio in Palatka, Hall Tumlin Chevrolet in Bunnell and her fathers timber operation in Putnam, Clay, Bradford and Alachua counties. She helped son Ronnie build WIYD FM radio station 99.9 that signed on the air in Palatka in 1972. She turned over ownership to Ronnie in 1975. She turned over the timber operations to son Reggie in 1990.
In her younger years, Georgie was an excellent athlete playing tennis, golf, bowling and water skiing. In later years she enjoyed feeding birds, squirrels and taking care of her cat.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Suzanne Tumlin of St. Augustine, son and daughter-in-law, Reggie and Roxanne Tumlin of Melrose, grandson, Reginald H. Tumlin, Jr. of Melrose, granddaughter, Brandi Tumlin of Palatka, granddaughter and husband, Misty and Bobby Steiner of Melrose and great-grandson, Gage Steiner, cousin, John C. and wife Michele Mikell of Palatka and their children, Colby and Courtney Mikell.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palatka. No visitation has been scheduled.
