Michael Ralph Motes, 71, of Hollister, passed from this life on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following a brief illness. Born to Ralph Waldo Motes and Beulah Chesser Motes, a Pioneer Putnam County family, Mike was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. He was a 1966 graduate of Palatka High School and served honorably in the National Guard for 6 years. Mike received his AS Degree in Forestry at Lake City and began working as a forester in the Woodlands Division of Hudson Pulp and Paper Company. For 4 years he owned and operated Troy Electric before returning to Georgia Pacific where he worked as an electrician for 30 additional years, retiring in 2013. Mike enjoyed being outdoors and especially when he was hunting, fishing and camping with family. He also enjoyed dancing and was an avid Florida Gator football fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Beulah Motes.
Mike is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rhonda Motes, 3 sons, Troy Motes and wife Becci, Aaron Motes and Michael D. Motes, 2 grandchildren, Morgan Motes and Madelyn Motes, a sister, Bonnie Phillips, beloved nephew, Casey Phillips and wife Tabby and their son, Jaxon, a cherished aunt, Marie Rightmire, Glo Motes, the mother of his son Troy and numerous other extended family and friends.
Services celebrating Mike’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Dr. L.D. Osteen officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
