Born to Ernest T Brooks Sr and Alice Marie Fletcher, Christine was a life-long resident of Palatka.
She attended Campbell Elementary and Mellon High School. On June 23, 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, Jeff Emerson Jr, who was serving in the US Navy. After his discharge in Dec of 1953 the couple settled in Palatka and started their family and long life together. Randall Walter and Anne Marie were born in the few years to follow.
Christine was a loving mother to her children and a Christian Guardian to numerous nieces and nephews put in her care under dire circumstances.
After the children graduated, she and husband Jeff assisted her sister Ruther Hunter in the operation of angels Dining Car from 1975 until 1980. Later that year they purchased “Rags to Riches” clothing store at 210 St John Ave and in 1983 opened “The GuidePost Christian Dept Store” at 216 St Johns Ave. In 1986 they moved the GuidePost across the street to 225 St Johns Ave to make room for the Rainbow Café, operate by daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Terry Howe. The Emerson’s assumed operation of the Café when the Howe's started their family, sons Jeffery and Cody, daughter Mandy. The proceeded to move the GuidePost to 117 N 2nd St in 1990 and finally to 621 St Johns Ave in 1994. After selling the Rainbow Café, they devoted their time and effort toward the GuidePost, finally selling it after 31 years in 2014.
Christine – a true and faithful wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, caring great grandmother, and a Christian friend to many. She clothed the needy, fed the hungry, and led many to their savior Jesus Christ.
Preceded in death by her mother and father, Ernest Sr and Alice; brothers Albert, Rollin, Ernest Jr, and Roy; sisters Ruth, Emily, Leona, and Betty; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and Sam Hitchcock.
She is survived by husband of 67 years Jeff Emerson, son Randy (Leslie), daughter Anne Howe (Terry), 5 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Private family services were held at the graveside on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Oak Hill West Cemetery with Pastor Josh Hobbs officiating.
