Daniel S. Irish, 55 of Fleming Island, passed from this life unexpectedly on Thursday, January 23, 2020 in Turner County, Georgia. He was born on May 22, 1964 in Gowanda, New York to Conrad Irish and Myrna Matteson Irish and was a 1982 graduate of Middleburg High School.

Daniel (aka “Gilraker”) was a driver with UPS for the past 33 years, having been named as a “Circle of Honor Driver.” He was also a member of the Teamsters Union Local #512. He was respected among his work colleagues as being a man with a strong work ethic, a positive role model and faithful friend. His faith was one of action and he influenced all who knew him.
Daniel was an avid and accomplished bass fisherman. He was a member of First Coast Christian Bass Club and fished the BASS Nation Team Trail and XTREME Bass Fishing Trail. Daniel, with his fishing partner, won the 2019 North East Florida Association of Realtors (NEFAR) Tournament held on the St. Johns River in Palatka, and finished eighth in the 2019 Wolfson Children’s Hospital Annual Bass Tournament.
Daniel was known for his love for his family and others, truly living out his spiritual beliefs. He was a member of Hibernia Baptist Church in Fleming Island.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 29 years, Ellen, and his son, Travis, both of Fleming Island, his parents, Conrad and Myrna Irish of Middleburg, a brother, Tim Irish (Wynona) of Middleburg, a sister, Rhonda Philips (Kelley) of Berlin, Germany and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Hibernia Baptist Church in Fleming Island. Visitation is from 10-11:00 a.m., followed by a service celebrating Daniel’s life, with Pastor Scott Yirka officiating. A graveside ceremony for family and close friends will be held at Holly Hill Memorial Park in Middleburg.
