George Edward “Ed” MacClellan of Palatka passed away on February 2nd, 2020 following a brief illness

He was born in Lakeland, Florida on June 29, 1938, the 4th child of Donald T. and Jean Reynolds MacClellan. He spent his childhood in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Hawthorne, Florida in the 10th grade. He graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1957.
He received his Associate of Arts degree from Central Florida Junior College in Ocala, Florida, attended the University of Florida, received a Bachelor of Ministry from Freedom University and a Doctorate of Ministry in Psychology from Faith Bible Theological Seminary.
He spent his entire adult life working with at-risk children, including the Gainesville Boys Club, Youth Minister at Highlands Presbyterian Church, juvenile officer with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, assistant director of the Florida Sheriffs Boys Ranch, Executive Director of Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, as co-founder and director of Florida Horsemen’s Childrens Home. He finished his noble and rewarding career as the Executive Director of the Florida Association of Christian Child Caring Agencies. Throughout his lifetime he always put others before self. He was dedicated to making the lives of children in need better. During his career he helped thousands of children.
He was a member of several child care organizations and served as President of the National Fellowship of Child Care Executives and President of the Florida Association of Christian Child Caring Agencies.
He attended Christ Independent Methodist Church for over 50 years where he served on the Hospitality Committee for over 20 years and served as Chairman of the Board
Preceding him in death are his parents, older brother Don, younger sister Jill and sister Jean Marie (age 2).
Survivers include his wife of 51 years, LouAnn MacClellan, sons, Chanse MacClellan and Evan (Lisa) MacClellan, daughter, Audrey MacClellan, Sisters Nancy Sears and Kathleen Purcell (Bill), 6 Grandchildren, Brandin MacClellan (Adrien), Clayton MacClellan, Chanley MacClellan (Kassie), Bijou Powell, Aidan Powell and Caty Powell, four great grandchildren, Aiden, Colton, Charlee and Kolsyn, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka with Rev. Amos Price and Rev. Michael Hudson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow at Ochwilla Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
