Richard E. Irvin, Sr., 93, of Hastings, passed from this life on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Samantha R. Wilson Bayview Care Center in St. Augustine with his family at his side. He was born to Charles Nelson Irvin and Mary Smith Irvin in Newton Hamilton, Pennsylvania. He served in the US Navy Armed Guard during WWII as a gunner. Richard had lived in Hastings since 1946, where he served as a member of the City Council and was mayor for 2 years. He had also worked as a salesman for Jack Wilson Chevrolet – Buick retiring after 22 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hastings.

He is preceded in death by his son, Richard E. Irvin, Jr., daughter, Roberta Irvin Fooks, parents, Charles and Mary Irvin and 14 siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Sarah Kaiser Irvin, grandchildren, Allesha Irvin Schirmer (Chris), Leslie Irvin Goldstein (David), Richard E. Irvin, III (Alicia), Ashley Irvin Franke (Mike) and Amy Saucerman, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, numerous loving nieces and nephews and many dear friends including, Charles and Edna Johnson, Bennie and Martha Singleton and Joe and Kay Roberts.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time of services.
